The Necessity Of MEWP Training

The Necessity Of MEWP Training

Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP’s) are widely used in the workplace and can be seen to be replacing ladders and tower scaffolds as the preferred method of access. However operators are often asked to use these machines without being given any official training resulting in a lack of awareness to safety precautions that are required for individual capabilities of the MEWP itself.
The fatality injury rate for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) has remained constant despite the total MEWP number of rental days worldwide has increased. International Powered Access Federation’s released data in 2015 relating to accident rates and its preliminary fatal injury rate calculations find that the number of days a rented machine was operated per year was 192.2 million and the number of reported MEWP fatalities was 68, giving a fatal injury rate of 0.035. Of the 68 reported MEWP fatalities for 2015, the main causes were due to overturning, falls from height, electrocution and entrapment.
Up until now the main causes of MEWP related fatalities were: fall from height (31%), overturn (27%), electrocution (15%) and entrapment (15%).
For anyone working with Mobile Elevated Work Platforms it is important that they ensure the platform is safe and well maintained for maximum safety and wellbeing of its operators. This course offered by Olive Safety will provide workers with the knowledge and skills that is required to conduct safe operations on a Mobile Elevated Work Platform. As well as this MEWP training will ensure the safety of all operators and any other person working with or near the MEWP. This training is available as an online course so you can complete it at a time that is convenient to you.
