Forklift Training

Why it's important

The Importance of Forklift Training

Accidents involving lifting equipment within the workplace is increasing. Last year saw 40 people receive compensation amounting to €1.3million for workplace accidents involving forklifts and cranes, compared to 34 workers the previous year. The nature of accidents involving forklifts primarily consist of claimants that have been struck or rear ended while operating a forklift; workers have sustained damages to limbs from falling pallets while others have been thrown from forklifts or struck by crane tilts.

Forklift trucks are among the most dangerous vehicle types within the workplace and their dangers are often underestimated. Crush and foot injuries are the most popular injuries sustained by passer-by’s while operators are more exposed to instability of the truck, which could lead to it tipping over and resulting in the driver being crushed. During the year 2001 to 2006 six people were killed in forklift accidents in Ireland.
